Hussain Jamil
Overview
Hussain Jamil (born 1990) is a Dubai-based visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice bridges miniature painting, sculpture, public art, and immersive installations. Trained at the National College of Arts, Lahore (BFA in Miniature Painting, 2014) and Beaconhouse National University (MA in Art & Design, 2018), Jamil began with the meticulous traditions of miniature art before evolving into contemporary sculptural forms. He works with polished stainless steel, wire mesh, and mirror-finished surfaces to create dynamic pieces that play with reflections, illusions, and the beauty of imperfection.
In his recent series Threads of Reflections, he reinterprets the heritage craft of Haseer weaving through modern materials, merging cultural technique with a contemporary vision. Jamil’s work has been exhibited at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts in Islamabad, and as part of Dubai Design Week. He has executed large-scale installations for iconic sites including the Burj Al Arab (as part of its extension art collection), One Za’abeel, and Dubai Hills, where his reflective sculptures transform public spaces.
Among his honors are the Engro Juried Art Prize at the Karachi Biennale and recognition as Artist of the Year 2022. His works are part of notable collections such as the HH Collection. He continues to expand his international practice across the Middle East, Europe, and Asia.
