Gustavo Vélez: Essere Geometrico: With the Critical Review of Domenico Piraina
Past exhibition
Overview
The city of Forte dei Marmi, the Villa Bertelli Foundation and Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery announce the opening of the exhibition ESSERE GEOMETRICO by the Colombian artist Gustavo Vélez which will be open to the public from the 10th of June to the 18th of September 2023.
“The sculptural translation of dance and music, set up by Gustavo Vélez in the land of noble marbles following the geometric abstraction of shapes and lines, is an invitation to reflect on the concepts of balance, harmony, essentiality, cleanliness, lightness, of freedom, which do not concern only art but, more remarkably, life itself”.
So writes Domenico Piraina, art historian, who will edit the critical text of the catalog of Gustavo Velez's exhibition.
Entirely made up of monumental works, set up between the seafront and the streets of the city centre, in dialogue with the urban spaces and the surrounding landscape, the exhibition is promoted by Forte dei Marmi to enrich the city with great works of art art in the most important period of the year.
The works by Gustavo Vélez also represent one of the most important historical-artistic traditions of the area, sculpture. Here, the greatest sculptors in history have always measured themselves with the stone materials of the Apuan Alps, including the white statuary known throughout the world as a sculptural stone for its preciousness. Versilia, where there are also some of the most important artistic foundries in the country, welcomes this extraordinary exhibition by Gustavo Vélez whose path allows you to observe the most beautiful forms of contemporary sculpture.
The most evocative corners of the elegant Tuscan city, a privileged cultural space and an always usable exhibition venue, host the eight works by Gustavo Vélez made of marble, steel and bronze. The sculptures can be freely admired by the public for the entire period of the exhibition.
