Gustavo Vélez in Forte dei Marmi

Forte dei Marmi

Set like a jewel between the sea and the mountains where Michelangelo chose his best stones: this is Forte dei Marmi, where nature, culture and history come together. With its 500 years of history, Forte dei Marmi is not just beach and bicycles: museums, villas, squares, works of art, exhibitions and cultural events populate the streets of the town all year round.

Oblong Contemporary Gallery took inspiration from the nature of this amazing place and decided to pay homage to the combination of Forte dei Marmi and art: the placement of monumental works by Colombian artist Gustavo Vélez represents the best opportunity to bring the man closer to matter. The Forte dei Marmi community and the tourist community are called to interact with the two sculptures, overcoming all types of material and figurative barriers to appreciate art in the true sense of the word. The bronze of Vèlez's works takes up the tradition of sculpture which is characteristic of Versilian history; steel adds the element of reflection, which not only acts as a mirror of the surrounding environment, but also deepens the link between the viewer and the work.

The exhibition "Seduzioni Geometriche" by Gustavo Vèlez begins with two works located outdoors and ends in the walls of Oblong Contemporary, which has always had the mission of strengthening the artistic community of Forte dei Marmi through seasonal exhibitions that aim to enrich the artistic reviews of the area, as well as revitalizing the surrounding activities.
