Jonty Hurwitz

Overview
Jonty Hurwitz is an internationally recognised artist and engineer whose work operates at the intersection of quantum physics, advanced computation, and perceptual science. His practice focuses on the mathematical structure of vision and the ways in which information is encoded, processed, and reconstructed by the human brain.
Hurwitz is widely known for pioneering applications of anamorphic distortion, algorithmic modelling, 3D scanning, and nano-fabrication within sculpture. Using methods derived from engineering and computational geometry, he creates objects that reveal their form only under precisely defined spatial or optical conditions. These works investigate the thresholds between physical reality, digital abstraction, and the limits of human perception.
In 2015 he produced the world’s smallest human sculpture, fabricated using focused ion beam technology at nanoscale resolution and certified by Guinness World Records. His research-driven approach has led to collaborations with scientists and engineers across multiple fields, and his work has been published in scientific journals including Nature.
Hurwitz has exhibited in museums and institutions worldwide—among them the Macau Museum of Art (Permanent Collection), Wuhan Museum of Art, Science Gallery Venice, Exploratorium San Francisco, Liberty Science Center New York, and the Oklahoma Science Museum. His contributions have been recognised through awards from organisations such as the Royal Photographic Society, BAFTA, BIMA, IVCA, Arte Laguna Prize, and Cotswold Sculpture Park.
Hurwitz continues to explore the interface between computation, materiality, and cognition, developing sculptures that examine the measurable and immeasurable properties of observation, scale, and information.
