Overview
Oblong Contemporary is pleased to present nine works by Giuseppe Maiorana, now on view in Forte dei Marmi.
Alongside his highly sought-after bronze sculptures, Maiorana introduces a new and distinctive medium, presented for the first time within the series Pebbles.
This new body of work, Pebbles, is crafted using marine-grade plywood and aluminium, layered with enamel to achieve a refined, tactile surface. Each piece balances precision and material presence, where a rigorous square format frames the soft, eroded silhouette of a river pebble—creating compositions that are both minimal and deeply expressive.
The river pebble is not merely a natural form; it is a timeless symbol of permanence, continuity, and a universal visual language that transcends cultures. From ancient ritual objects to elemental markers of space, its presence resonates instinctively—here reinterpreted by Maiorana into a contemporary, highly collectible form.
A defining feature of the works is the subtle “step” between materials, where marine plywood and aluminium meet. This interruption of the surface creates a visual and physical tension that draws the eye and invites closer engagement, transforming each piece into a dynamic, living object.
The square format acts as a controlled boundary, while the organic form within introduces a quiet disruption—resulting in a sophisticated balance between structure and spontaneity. The works respond to light and perspective, offering a constantly shifting visual experience.
These nine works from the Pebbles series represent a refined and collectible direction in Maiorana’s practice, combining conceptual depth with strong aesthetic presence. Ideal for contemporary interiors and curated collections, they function as both sculptural statements and meditative focal points.
Now on view in Forte dei Marmi, this presentation offers a rare opportunity to acquire works from a new and evolving series by Giuseppe Maiorana.
