Overview
From June 15 to September 30, 2024, the Municipality of Forte dei Marmi, the Villa Bertelli Foundation, and Oblong Contemporary Art Gallery present a public art exhibition by Gianfranco Meggiato (Venice, 1963), with works displayed in the streets and squares of Forte dei Marmi (LU). The opening will take place on Saturday, June 15, at 6:30 PM, in Piazza Garibaldi.
Titled "Risveglio", the exhibition aims to stimulate the awakening of consciences and encourage reflection by bringing art out of museums and into the squares, among the people. Throughout the summer, the most representative corners of the Tuscan city will become a freely accessible cultural space for the public.
With Gianfranco Meggiato, art is not only contemplation but above all action. Transforming urban spaces into stages where his large abstract sculptures become the main actors, the artist emphasizes the universal character of the artistic language, capable of connecting past and present and transmitting messages.
Meggiato's works – made of aluminum with sand casting techniques and bronze with lost-wax casting techniques, set on stainless steel bases, varying in height from two to five meters – trace an itinerary from the seafront to the city center of Forte dei Marmi, in dialogue with the urban spaces and surrounding landscape.
By titling the exhibition "Risveglio", Meggiato alludes to the phenomenon of awakening of consciences that has been occurring globally for several years. Believing that one cannot live solely for oneself, preying on others and nature and focusing exclusively on materiality, the artist seeks to support through his research the adoption of a freer and more conscious attitude, gradually opening up to the understanding of the world and the meaning of life.
